The Accademia Gallery has a wonderful variety of Michelangelo's works of art, and contains some of the greatest masterpieces of Michelangelo, including La Pietà, The Prisoners, St.
Matthew and the spectacular David, which brings many art lovers to the Accademia Gallery from around the world.
There are many paintings and sculptures by famous Italian artists including Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto and Giambologna hanging in the halls of this gallery.
There are a variety of artwork from this period, including those made for the renowned Medici family, that showcase all of the beauty and imagination that is also associated with the Renaissance period; and thus a portion of your next adventure will involve viewing an area known as the Hall of Plaster Casts, which contains artwork created in the 18th Century by Lorenzo Bartolini; plus, you'll be able to view musical instruments (i.e., the three great Stradivari violins) and a piano (the first ever to be made) among various other things.
The Museum houses the largest collection of art by Lorenzo Monaco (14th century) ever in one place.
The use of gold leaf and lapis lazuli on these works demonstrates the riches of Florence during the Medieval Period.
