Your experience

Accademia Gallery: Michelangelo's David and the Slave Figures

You will begin your day by visiting the Accademia Gallery, where you will bypass the line to enter the most famous museum in the world.

Your private guide will discuss many of the points of interest regarding the statue of David, including how he was made with odd proportions, why David is facing towards Rome, and that Leonardo da Vinci believed he was poorly made.

You will also have the chance to view many of the unfinished slave figures, and learn about how Michelangelo used a different technique to free the figures from their marble block.

Florence Walking Tour: The Duomo and Renaissance Gems

The next thing you will do is take a walking tour of Florence during Renaissance times and eventually reach the duomo (cathedral).

There you will view the museum inside the duomo, where you will see the Pietà Bandini, which is a sculpture of Christ by Michelangelo that was made with a hammer and has many pieces broken off from the arms and legs.

You will also see Michelangelo's self portrait holding Jesus with his face looking up towards Him; this portrait was located in Michelangelo's tomb.

Experience firsthand the original Gates of Paradise (bronze gates by Michelangelo), Mary Magdalene (a statue by Donatello that has incredible emotional weight), and the specific construction technique that Brunelleschi used to create the dome.

Giotto Pass: Campanile, Baptistery and Brunelleschi's Crypt

You will also be given a Giotto Pass, valid for 72 hours after your tour concludes, allowing you to climb Giotto's Campanile (414 steps) at your leisure to enjoy an excellent view of all parts of Florence.

You will also visit the Baptistery in which Dante was baptised and the crypt of the Basilica di Santa Reparata, where Brunelleschi is buried, beneath the world-renown Church that he built.
