After a quick visit to the gift shop, your guide takes you into the Hall of the Colossus to view masterpieces at this site including Giambologna’s "Rape of the Sabines," Cassone Adimari, Domenico Ghirlandaio’s solemn "St. Stephen between St. James and St. Peter." A little farther in The Hall of Prisoners you can see the unfinished statues by Michelangelo "Slaves" and learn more about his friendship and mutual influences with artist like Fra’ Bartolomeo, Pontormo, Granacci, etc.Our guide later spent time at The Tribune filling us in on everything about Michelangelo's statue of David as well as in the Tribune Left Wing "Allori’s Coronation of the Virgin Mary". Finally, the guide will also take you to the Gipsoteca Bartolini: plaster casts of the Reclining Venus, Arnolfo, Brunelleschi, and Lorenzo Monaco; Documentation center on the first floor.Later in the evening join us for the guided city walking tour. From the point of the meeting, the guide will give you an insight into the history of this Renaissance city and how this incredible cultural movement of Renaissance transformed not only Florence but eventually the rest of Europe.The guide will start off with Piazza Della Republica: the main square of Florence and that marks the center of the City. After a little talk of history & the changes of Piazza Republica since its origin, you will walk straight to the marvelous piece of art: Piazza Della Duomo. A showstopper by Filippo Brunelleschi, Giotto, Arnolfo & Francesco Talenti. Passing through the Piazza del Duomo, your guide will take you on a walk through Florence's heart, brushing past many of the biggest sites in the old town and historic Florentine treasures until you reach Palazzo Vecchio. Standing right before Palazzo Vecchio is the place where David stood (original statue now in Galleria dell'Accademia) by Michelangelo, an outcry against tyranny by the Florentine Republic after their overthrow of ruling Medici family. Continuing to walk past Palazzo Vecchio, your guide will mention a bit about the Uffizi Gallery (one of the finest museums in the world) before taking you to Florence's oldest bridge, “Ponte Vecchio”. The next stop after this is Palazzo Pitti, one of the largest architectural monuments in Florence built by Filippo Brunelleschi and once home to the Pitti Family before passing into the hands of the Medicis. Finally, in that very century, the guide will introduce you to the artists, architects, thinkers, and statesmen who made the Renaissance, and were born to this rich land and around Florence. The tour takes around two hours, enough for you to feel how singular and beautiful a city Florence is.
